NBA Star Gives Back to His Community
NBA star and Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black is creating AB Elite, a traveling youth basketball program for kids from fourth grade through high school. The program was founded to help encourage, inspire and develop young basketball players to reach their full potential, both on and off the basketball court.
AB Elite is Black's vision to begin "giving back" to the basketball community for all it has provided him and his family. This 501(c) (3) nonprofit will provide the means and opportunity for many young men to walk in Anthony’s footsteps.
AAU basketball programs, in concert with public and private schools are the most successful platforms for the development of basketball skills in the U.S. Anthony is the product of an independent AAU team in North Texas which played an important role in his multiple scholarship offers, therefore he has chosen AAU as the AB Elite platform.
Everyone familiar with Anthony knows a large part of his success is the result of a very competitive nature. He expects to be a winner at everything he attempts, and usually is. This winning attitude will be a large part but not all that AB Elite offers to our players. Anthony is a kind and generous young man so in addition to learning basketball skills, AB Elite players will have the opportunity to learn life skills such as family values, sportsmanship, integrity and personal responsibility.
Finally for those young athletes who have the desire and ability to pursue a college scholarship, AB Elite will provide guidance with respect to navigating the recruiting process. This is invaluable support that almost every parent needs.
I am sure you are aware that providing this high-level training comes at a cost that many families cannot afford. Coaches’ compensation, facility rental, uniforms, and travel expenses just to name a few. Anthony’s vision is to provide this valuable training at no cost to the players’ families.
